Main Purpose

The purpose of the role is to develop and implement an integrated artistic vision and business plan through the provision of effective leadership.

Responsibilities

Advocacy and Influence

To lead and direct Site Gallery to build on its unique local, national and international profile and reputation.

To provide inspirational leadership and direction to the programme, activities and services and initiate and develop new projects and partnerships.

To act as the company’s key advocate and champion and to develop and manage relationships and partnership which support Site’s key aims and objectives.

To establish, develop and maintain a wide set of cultural, political, community, business and media relationships at senior levels; locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

To promote Site in a wide variety of contexts and forums. This will include regular presentations to arts funding bodies, local authorities, economic development agencies, cultural organisations, businesses, government bodies, colleges and universities and public and specialist events and conferences.

To promote a positive, aspirational organisational culture through a flexible, adaptive and supportive approach, inspiring a spirit of ambition and enterprise and championing the core values of the organisation.

To liaise closely with the Chair and members of the Board in order to undertake the above tasks effectively

Artistic Direction

To direct and evaluate the process of shaping, articulating and promoting Site’s artistic and creative ambitions.

To lead the Programming Team to deliver Site Gallery’s artistic aims and objectives, and to ensure these ambitions are delivered to the highest quality and standard.

To establish and secure partnerships and resources to advance the Gallery’s artistic and creative objectives.

Planning, Finance and Resource Management

To provide executive leadership for all of Site’s financial, human, and operational resources.

To lead on the production and review of business plans and other strategic and planning documents.

To ensure efficient financial planning and effective financial controls for Site Gallery to operate within its budget.

To identify, develop and broaden sources of funding and resources in order to sustain and enhance Site’s strategic aims and objectives.

To work with the Board to ensure that all executive functions of the Gallery are delivered effectively and to the highest standard.

To ensure the Board receives sufficient financial information to undertake their duties responsibility.

Leadership and Staff Management

To provide inspired and effective leadership of Site and its staff team. Set clear examples to all staff about organisational and personal expectations and manage those accordingly.

To be responsible for the recruitment and induction of all staff in close liaison with the Board.

To undertake line-management responsibilities for the staff and to conduct regular review meetings and annual appraisals.

General Responsibilities

Contribute to Site Gallery’s understanding of equality and diversity, linking this work to artistic direction and public engagement.

Ensure that relevant policies and procedures are regularly evaluated and improved.

Attend Board meetings, presenting new ideas for discussion, and providing background briefings and financial materials that will allow Board members to make informed decisions in the interest of the gallery’s charitable objects.

Keep up-to-date with developments in the visual arts, regionally, nationally and internationally, and the arts funding infrastructure.

Undertake additional tasks as may reasonably be required.
