Director, Site Gallery

£35,000 – £41,000

Sheffield

Site Gallery is an essential part of the UK’s contemporary arts infrastructure, and has always sought to be at the cutting edge. Thirty years ago, this meant an exclusive focus on photography. Now, while staying true to these origins in lens-based media, the programme includes film and video, installation, live art and digital artworks.

Over the years, the gallery has received capital investment from the National Lottery (1997), the European Regional Development Fund and English Partnerships. Site was also helped through the transition away from regular EU investment by the Arts Council’s recovery programme (2003-6).

'It is a place that supports innovative new projects that also relate to its local audience. I’m happy that Sheffield has a gallery that is not just a ‘poor relation’ of the bigger national galleries but is forging a name for itself and gaining recognition internationally.’ Jarvis Cocker, Patron

With the current Director, Carol Maund, leaving after 13 years in role, Site is seeking a new Director who can bring fresh artistic vibrancy to the organisation. The Board wants to appoint a dynamic Director who can inspire stakeholders and engage audiences; an individual who can take advantage of the organisation’s resources to build an ambitious yet achievable future. For the right person, this is a rewarding leadership role with the opportunity to make an impact across regional, national and international contexts.

The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of and passion for contemporary art, with programming or curatorial experience. They will have leadership experience, and proven business planning skills. These skills will include financial management, audience development and engagement, fund development and income generation, as well as managing a building-based organisation.

This is a full-time, permanent position.
